She starred in the original tour of OF THEE I SING and went into the
Broadway show at the very end. She was supposed to do the Angela
Lansbury role in THE HARVEY GIRLS, but got pregnant.

She had hepatitis when she starred in radio version of Maisy and did the
first few episodes from a hospital bed.

Reminds me of Mel Blanc's first season of the Flintstones, where he did
Barney in a full-body cast.

Or was that Dustin Hoffman? Yes I know, what's the difference...

From: ElBob-O@webtv.net (robert armstrong) She had hepatitis when she
starred in radio version of Maisy and did the first few episodes from a
hospital bed.
----------------------------------------
She had health problems througout her life. Later on, the set of
EVERYODY LOVE OPAL fell on her and injured her badly-- and permanently.

The show wasn't that bad. Well, not *that* bad. And contrary to the
IMDb, many portions of it were in color!

Ev'rybody knows in the second life

We all come back sooner or later

As anything from an alleycat

To a man-eating alligator

Now you all may think my story

Is more fiction than it's fact

But believe it or not my mother dear

Decided she'd come back

As a car

She's my very own guiding star

A Nineteen Twenty-Eight Porter

That's my mother dear

She guides me through ev'rything I do

And I'm so glad she's here

And I'm so gla-a-ad she's here

My mother the car!

Loved the gag on Nick at Night when they showed an Ann-thropology
timeline, and instead of Australopithecus, Peking Man, Neanderthal,
etc., they showed pictures of Ann Sothern as Maisy, Katie, Suzy, and
finally "Voice of Car."

Just came from Teatro Lyrico d'Europa's prod. of Tosca: powerful.

Interesting how they had her and the actress who played the phone
operator on SUZY, together again when Ann was asst. manager of the hotel
and then they recast the manager's role with SUZY's boss Don Porter

HA! Got you beat on that one I saw Porter in the last performance
of PLAZA SUITE with Peggy Cass.
Too bad it didn't say something about that in the PLAYBILL.
Would have made it worth more.

Yeah, I think they just wanted to reinvent the same show a slightly
different way. Actually the new show was called Personal Secretary, but
as I recall it was informally called Suzy.

I have to ask, what exactly does "in stock" mean? It's hardly as if I
don't know theatre, but it seems to be an east coast expression, or one
that has different interpretations.

"Private Secretary". I believe "Susie" (note spelling) was a syndication
title. (It used to be common to retitle a series if it was syndicated in
reruns while still in prime time.)

"The Ann Sothern Show" was the one set in a hotel. Ann Sothern, Don
Porter, Jesse White, and Ann Tyrrell were all in both, but they were, at
least theoretically, playing different characters.

I don't recall Jessie being on the hotel show.
that business of renaming shows in syndication stopped many years ago.

The few I can recall are The Line Up/SAn Francisco Beat, Lassie/Jeff's
Colle, Dragnet/Barge 373 Fury/Wild Stallion.

I saw the tour of PLAZA SUITE with Howard Keel and (again) Betty
Garrett. I saw Peggy in LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS with Milton Berle,
Barbara Sharma, and Phyllis Newman.
