Dear Friends,

I hope all of you are having a nice time.

Well, I am trying to purchase a Megabox Karaoke multistandard DVD
player that plays, obviously, regular DVD's in video mode in addition
to MIDI DVD's, regular audio CD-DA's, VCD's, SVCD's, CD-R's, etc. The
problem I have with this machine is that I don't know if it plays MIDI
CD's aside from MIDI DVD's, and the sellers are not sure about it.
Hence, my question is, if this Megabox DVD player handles MIDI DVD's
and CD-DA's (plus CD-R's) correctly, doesn't it follows that it can
also handle MIDI CD's by default? Or is it possible that such a
machine plays MIDI DVD's and CD-DA's (plus CD-R's) but not MIDI CD's?

Thank you very much for your time and consideration and please be so
kind to post to the newsgroup(s) if you know the answer.

Most cordially,

Carlos Albert Lacayo

Hello, there!

Will this remain unsolved? Or is it that the compatability issues are
different from machine to machine? Again, for me, if a DVD karaoke
deck plays MIDI DVD's and CD's, it plays MIDI CD's by default, or am I
wrong? I am following the logic of an LD karaoke deck: if it plays
LD's and CD's, it plays CDV's by default.

What is a MIDI DVD and MIDI CD, or do you mean MINI? And if so exactly what
are you referring to?

Hello, Rake!

You can find an overview of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital
Interface) here:

http://www.indiana.edu/~emusic/MIDI.html

There is not much information about MIDI DVD's, but you can find some
here:

http://www.karaokedepot.com/product.asp?cid=7&pid=100

The multistandard DVD player that I am considering buying is this one:

http://www.alibaba-online.com/bin/sample/list/showsample/~megatron1?sample_id=10217359

Again, while this DVD player "plays" MIDI DVD's and CD's, there is no
information about MIDI CD's playback.

Can anybody else make some comments?

I know what MIDI is...I program raw MIDI code. There is no connection
between MIDI DVDs capability and anything else you mentioned. Assume
nothing.

Further, you might was well send in the form on that player and ask, since
they do not sell single units and are looking for distributors.

Hey, Kevin!

I see what you mean, and it makes perfect logic to me. Still, believe
me, some sellers were not sure about it.

In closing, I really thank you for your valuable comments.

Best to you,

Since it can read mp3 and vcd files, it already has the necessary
ISO file system support. So it probably doesn't care whether it
finds the MIDI files on a DVD or CD. In that respect, it should
behave the same as a pc, which sees a DVD/CD-ROM as just a set of
data files.

It is far more than just file recognition...it must have hardware to play
the files, since they are not signals!

Hello, Luminos!

Thank you for your contribution.

While you could be right, and I think you are, my main interest relies
on knowing if the Megabox MTC-3000 plays MIDI CD's in addition to MIDI
DVD's regardless of the "how to". In retrospect, the MTC-2000 plays
MIDI CD's and MIDI DVD's, so there is still a chance that the MTC-3000
plays both.

Taking about MIDI CD's and MIDI DVD's, I just recently found out that,
in karaoke jargon, MIDI CD's and MIDI DVD's are not just MIDI's. These
discs contain lyrics (graphics) and videos (images) in addition to the
actual MIDI sounds (audio). Thus, this leds me to wonder if such
karaoke players are compatible with traditional MIDI CD's, meaning
CD's with just MIDI files with no graphics and/or videos.

Best,

C.A. Lacayo

I have looked at the unit and description. Regarding your last point, I
think the answer is very probably no, since they make reference to a special
disc file format.
