I saw Double Indemnity in a movie theater where they
show those old movies...
I saw Double Indemnity on a TV set once,
and I saw it on VHS
not sure about DVD
and now I saw it on a webpage
http://tinyurl.com/36qf45
http://www.stage6.com/Viaggio-nel-cinema-internazionale/video/2179906/Double-Indemnity-(1944)---VO
I don't know how many times I saw it, I still learn something new like,
I didn't know she killed the wife.
How did I miss that? I guess seeing it on a website I was able to focus on it more.

I still cannot figure out why he wants a beer that is not working. If I tell that to a girl today
she is going to look at me crossed eyed, (and I had enough of those crossed eyed looks from girls!)

Oh. I thought it meant one that was having no effect on the drinker.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Every beer drinking person knows you open
a beer you drink the whole bottle/can. You leave an open beer in the 'fridge and
it gets stale/flat very quickly, and why open a beer in the first place? To take a zip?
People drink beer to get stone. You're not getting stone taking a zip and putting it
back in the 'fridge, you're wasting it. Is there anybody out there with an open beer
in the 'fridge right now? If somebody says Yes I'll shoot myself! |

I think the problem was (if I remember correctly),
the original writer simply didn't know how to speak English.
If the door is lock, they say things like "the door's not working", or
the door's "broken", since they don't know how to say the word "open".
So he really meant to write
'Yeah, unless you got a bottle of beer that's not "open".'
The people at the studios probably thought it was creative writing when it was simply
broken English.
In those days there were alot of illegal immigrants, I guess the writer
of "Double Indemnity" was simply one of them, wrote a screenplay and the studios
bought it thinking it was creative writing...what do they know, look at the garbage
they put out.
What's funny is you guys are thinking the same thing!
He meant to say, "Do you got a beer that is not open?" , but since the writer
didn't know how to speak English correctly (he spoke broken English), he end up saying
"Yeah, unless you got a bottle of beer that's not working."
Of course, I could be wrong.

I remember an interview (circa 1970 something) in which Clint Eastwood
said a real man never leaves a beer unfinished. His favorite in those days
I believe was Olympia. I seem to recall he had ownership in a brewery
for something called "Pale Ale?" or "Pale Ale Rider" or something.

An open single bottle of Corona, with a bloated piece of lime floating
in it.

Not everybody drinks beer to get stoned. I admit that if I don't finish a
beer, I toss it, but I don't drink enough that it costs much.
I'm of the very small subset of creatures that drink - but do not enjoy
getting high. Which leaves me more money to get better ales and wines. (I
have avoided the expense of acquiring a taste for fine Scotch - even though I
know enough about my tastes to know that wouldn't be hard). |

Try _Islay Mist_ sometime you'll get hooked soon enough.

My solution to that problem is to like only 30-year-old Laphroaig. It's
wonderful stuff, but it costs $250 a bottle so there's no danger I'm
ever going to drink very much at one time. I have about three ounces
left from the bottle I got last May for my 60th birthday. Drop by this
weekend and let's finish it off.
