Any "musical connections" for the late Roy Scheider? He did play Mr. Fosse
in the movie "All That Jazz," but that's probably it. A fine actor to be
sure.

He's great in that film. As I recall, he only got the role after Richard
Dreyfuss was fired. And Dreyfuss got THE GOOD-BYE GIRL after DeNiro was
fired?

"All That Jazz" producer Daniel Melnick led a discussion after the film
screened last summer at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences
and clarified that Richard Dreyfuss wasn't fired. Dreyfuss came to
Melnick and Fosse with his lawyer and agent after a few weeks of
rehearsal and begged off the film because he just couldn't see himself
"shaking my fat Jewish ass" on camera. After a scramble they landed
Scheider, who was finishing a film on the same lot at the time and began
rehearsals.

One would tend to agree with Mr. Dreyfuss, and commend his honesty (if
the above is true). While the man is a great actor, it would have
required a leap of considerable distance to picture him as any sort of a
dancer.

Yes, Mr. Dreyfuss does have the talent to play an obnoxious, stubborn,
nebbish sort of man, there was more to the role, and Mr. Scheider
seemed to capture it quite well.

Who remembers a young Richard Dreyfuss in a cute, 60s(?) kiddie movie with
the great Tony Randall called "Hello Down There" with some rather enjoyable
bubble-gum-type songs?

Jim Backus was in it also, and I think Ken Berry. And IIRC the songs were
written by Jeff Barry (writer, yes, of bubble-gum songs).
