According to BROADWAY BABYLON, Jodie Foster doesn't do theatre because
the audience "can look anywhere they want." She told Larry King it was
because "it's not a populist medium."

Christopher Walken about Broadway in a recent interview: "...to be honest,
nowadays if you work in the theater, people are taking your picture, they're
answering their phones. The bloom is off the rose for me a little bit. I
remember the old days. I have a friend who went to a play and had good seats
in the orchestra. The curtain went up and 10 minutes into the play, it was a
big star in the play and he hadn't come on yet, and this woman answers her
phone and my friend heard her say, 'No, he hasn't come on yet, but when he
comes on I'll call you.'" |

No one sitting near me would get away with that. Last play I went to

Your Face and saying, as we came in, Please turn off your cell phones!
As I don't carry one, I was a bit annoyed.
And everyone applauded last year, at Taming of the Shrew, when a cell
phone (perhaps the fourth or fifth) went off at a tense moment, and
Petrucchio yelled out at us, in character, "Ya gonna answer
it?" (Applause.)
In New York, at any rate, audiences are asked to turn them off and the
crowd gets ugly if you don't.

Last week, I was the Met with my wife when a cellphone went off during the
4th Act of Manon Lescaut (a particularly poor time for it to go off). There
were a few stares but, in my opinion, it didn't get anywhere near ugly
enough. |

Back in the 1970s when David Frost and Dick Cavert taped their shows
in here NYC, you could take photos at DC's tapings (as long as you
didn't use flash, trust me studio lights were bright enough, however
the color would be a bit off) and on DF you could not, at one taping
the PAGES at DF were more then rude, five or more times he (upon seeing
my SLR)reminded me.

Three weeks ago on the opening night of "Year of Magical Thinking" here,
cell phones rang twice at very poignant moments, completely ruining the
atmosphere. |
