It is with deep sadness and sense of loss that brings me to report the
sudden passing of Wayne Bott. Wayne passed away last night, February 12, of
sudden heart failure.

Volumes could be written about Wayne's love of WCS, his fellow dancers, and
what a great guy he was. Wayne will be missed...his loss leaves a massive
vacuum for all who knew him. Rest in peace, my friend. You will live on in
the hearts, minds and prayers of all who knew you.

My heart goes out to Wayne's family, Sharlot, and the entire dance
community. It is a great loss, indeed. Death leaves a heartache no one
can heal, but tears are the soap of the soul.

Wayne has been...and will always be....an inspiration. His zeal for
dance was paralleled only by his zest for life. he was a great guy, a
great teacher, and a great performer. I absolutely loved watching him
dance with Sharlot. I cannot begin to imagine her loss...I ask that
anyone who prays, lift her up in prayer through this difficult time.

Wayne, I hope there is much dancing in heaven...you will live on in
dance history, in our memories, stories, and recollections of your
contributions to dancing and your impact on the lives of all who knew
you. We will continue to watch videos of your dancing, enjoying your
innovative style and obvious love of the dance. I hope there is some
great dancing in heaven...

Joseph

What a loss, no words can express the disbelief and sadness I felt at
this news. Wayne was a great guy with wonderful wit and an amazing sense
of humor, he will be missed by all who knew him and the swing community
has suffered a loss beyond belief. My heart goes out to Sharlot and
theirs families. Rest in Peace my friend, you will be missed.

Wayne was just a few days short of his 45th birthday. This just
doesn't seem fair. But then, who ever said life is fair?

The last time I saw Wayne was january 4 when he and Sharlot came out
to the Press Box. The way they danced together showed their love of
dance, music and each other. Just as they were leaving I played "I
Got The Blues" by Brother Yusef and heard them both groan. I looked
over and Sharlot said "NOW you play my favorite song". I said "Next
time I'll play it while you're dancing", to which Wayne said, smiling,
"you'd better".

Next time. Words hanging in the air. If you have something you want
to say or do for a loved one, do it now Because there may not be a
next time.

Wayne, you were a class act all the way. Always a smile and a kind
word for everyone. You'll be badly missed.

I am stunned. Wayne was a great guy. He was an amazing dancer--
creative, innovative, and unique. I'm sure I was not alone in thinking
of him as one of my favorite leaders to watch and emulate, whether it
was in a competition or just out social dancing with Sharlot. He was
also a strong leader in the dance community, both as the competition
coordinator for the U.S. Open and in NASDE meetings. And he was also
very funny. His dry wit came through whenever he taught workshops or
was an MC at swing dance events. He will be greatly missed.

Wayne will always be my hero.
I loved his style and innovation and creativity. Many of the
techniques that are the foundations of today's WCS had their origins
in his philosophy of the dance. As he and Sharloy pushed the
boundaries of swing, he was at the same time a great advocate for
honoring and holding to the foundations of the dance. This is a great
loss for the swing communiity.
Those who knew him know what a fantastic person he was and his
boundless love of friends, enjoying life and especially Sharlot.
He is my inspiration for dance and inspiration for life - when i grow
up, I wanted to be Wayne. I will miss his smile.

I am stunned and saddened by this news. My heart weeps for Sharlot,
and I can't begin to imagine what she is going through. I will hold
doubly precious the dances I shared with Wayne, the lessons I had with
him and every time I saw him dance. Wayne has long been a leader in
the WCS community in every sense of the word.

My sincerest condolences to Sharlot and his family in this very
difficult and sad time.

I like to remember Wayne, as he enjoyed the dance with Sharlot.

My deepest sympathies to Sharlot and family for the sudden loss of
this great and kind man, Wayne Bott.

For many years, I've seen and admired Wayne's outstanding character,
compassion, innovation, intelligence, and humor influence the WCS
dance community and beyond. For me to simply say he will be missed
falls miles short of the magnitude of his presence in, and
contributions to, this world.

He will be missed tremendously.

Such sad news. What a loss. My heart goes out to Sharlot as I have a
good idea what you are going through. This just isn't fair at all.
Let me tell you that you don't get over it. You will however get
through it, with the support of our dance family. Please contact me
if you need someone to talk to. I'm just a click away.
