Hello everybody,

I heard there exists a tv recording of Sam Mendes version of Cabaret.
Does anybody know where I can find this recording?

Thank you very much in advance!

It was recorded and broadcast on BBC in the UK. It was similar bunt
identical to the Broadway revival. It did star Alan Cummings in his Tony
winning role. I have a copy of it.

It's a taping of Mendes' London production of "Cabaret" at the Donmar
Warehouse, starring Alan Cumming and Jane Horrocks. That production was
a bit different from the wildly successful Broadway revival that
followed (and the London production wasn't nearly as good). It was taped
for television and broadcast on BBC2, but has never been commercially
released.

I don't have it myself, and it's not (legally) available for sale. It's
hard to track down. And, actually, it's disappointing anyway - Horrocks,
a terrific actress who on paper is great casting as Sally Bowles,
doesn't really pull it off, the physical restrictions of the Donmar mean
that the staging concept doesn't work nearly as well as it did in
subsequent incarnations of this production, and the overall effect,
compared to Mendes' "Cabaret" at the Roundabout, is muted.
