BRUCH VIOLIN CONCERTO NO 1
Philip Quint (violin)
Queensland Orchestra
Christopher Seaman (conductor)

Live concert recording
August 2007, Brisbane

FM broadcast
@ 320kbps MP3 stereo

Background on the soloist (his first name is "Philippe" or "Philip"),
NB: this information appears a bit dated -

"A renowned star among the new generation of young violinists, Mr.
Quint holds the First Prizes in the following major competitions:

* The Carnegie Hall Violin Competition in New York, 1996
* Heida Hermann's International Competition, 1995
* Juilliard Concerto Competition, 1994
* Aspen Concerto Competition, 1994
* Paganini Concerto Competition in Moscow, 1989
* Mendelssohn Concerto Competition in Leningrad, 1987

Recent seasons have taken Quint to Carnegie Hall, after winning The
Waldo Mayo Award, given to the most gifted performer in New York. He
made his Avery Fisher Hall debut with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra,
and returns to perform with them in Alice Tully Hall this season. As a
result of winning the Juilliard Competition he performed the Korngold
Concerto with Kurt Masur and the Juilliard Orchestra in Avery Fisher
Hall.

Among other critically acclaimed debuts were appearances in Kravis
Center, Broward Center, as well as Van Wezel Hall, Mexico City
National Orchestra, West Virginia Symphony, and Pasadena Symphony.

He has also been a featured soloist with orchestras of Alabama,
Colorado, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, NewJersey, North Carolina,
Ohio, Virginia, as well as in Europe, Central and South America, and
all to enthusiastic critical acclaim and consistent re-engagements. In
addition to Kurt Masur, he has performed with a number of conductors,
including: Robert Hart Baker, Ignacio Calderon, Zuohuang Chen, Thomas
Conlin, Raymond Harvey, William Hudson, Jorge Mester, Carter Nice, and
Maxim Shostakovich, among others.

An active chamber musician, he has appeared at music festivals such
as: Caramoor (Andre Previn's Rising Stars Series, NY), Ravinia (IL),
Aspen (CO), Sosterberg (Holland) and Lukas Foss's Music Festival of
the Hamptons (NY).

His dynamic live performances and engaging interviews have been heard
on radio stations in New York (WQXR and WNYC), Boston (WGBH), Denver
(KVRD), St. Louis (KFUO), National Public Radio (NPR), Austria's ORF,
and ABC-TV Sacramento.

Philip Quint studied at Moscow's Special Music School for the Gifted
with the famed Russian violinist Andrei Korsakov. He made his
orchestral debut at the age of nine performing Wieniawski's Concerto
No.2. Graduating from the Juilliard School in 1998, Quint received
both Bachelor's and Master's degrees. His formidable pedagogues
include Dorothy Delay, Cho Liang Lin, Masao Kawasaki, and Felix
Galimir. He has also received coachings and participated in Master
Classes with Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Arnold Steinhardt, Peter
Oundjian, Miriam Fried, David Geringas, Bernard Greenhouse, and
Menahem Pressler.

A critical observation made by the Los Angeles Times: "Quint made a
smashing impression... Make no mistake: this man can play ... Quint
understood these tour de force pieces celebrate virtuosity and
music ... he is well acquainted with both." "A Legend in the Making",
was one critic's prediction, while "flawless," "dazzling,"
"extraordinary," and "astonishing" are only a few adjectives awarded
him by the press."
