At least three couples were deservedly disqualified although what they
did was great fun for them highly entertaining for us. Within minutes
of the contest, one of the Leaders said to me "Sometimes it's more
important to have fun than win contests".
It started when the three couples gathered in a corner of the floor.
One Leader seemed to pat another on the back but it was really a
crumpling of the other's number, instantly realized and the first
person's number was torn off. All this before the music started! When
it did, all hell broke loose and continued for the full number.
Strictly Swing is a NASDE competition and is subject to NASDE rules.
Many of them were broken by the three couples resulting in their
deserved disqualifications.
But, damn!, it was a helluva good show!
I am not a witness to the rumored anger that was allegedly expressed
by one or more of the disqualified. There was no cause for anger as
the judges did what they should have done because the competitors did
not. The other competitors should have been pleased as each of them
moved up three places. |

I am not jumping up and down with glee that the couples were
disqualified, and I am being the moderate by saying I am not angry
with the judges either. What does anger me (a lot) is the fact that
many of those in the audience who were hooting, laughing, and clapping
at the antics of the dancers were the first to support the fact they
were disqualified.

BTW, yes I am aware that Wayne passed away...in my mind he exemplifed
the standards of conduct to which a professional in out world of dance
should be held. If I were a parent, he is certainly someone I would
point to and say "Watch him, how he dances and how he conducts
himself...THAT is what a pro in dance should be."
