newbie question

hi all,
in last few days i got few .mid files.
when i start them i can hear the music but there is no words.
can someone explain me why? and what is difference between .mid and .kar
files.

me again.
i forgot to say that i use vanbasco 2.52 player for karaoke.
with .kar files i have no problem, but with most of .mid files i got. at the
beginning it appears information about mid file and it stays for whole time
during song.
could it be that lyrics are not correctly put inside song (i just guessing)
and is it possible to check on some other way are there lyrics? and also how
to merge music with lyrics?
to many questions, i know, but i am newbie in all this and for now it looks
very interst.

true midi files usually don't have lyrics inside...

The facts about midi-karaoke can be found in the FAQ for
alt.binaries.karaoke which was posted there today. The group is very
friendly, and the members will be glad to answer any questions you may
have that the FAQ or the links in it don't answer. If your ISP will
not carry alt.binaries.karaoke, please ask them to do so.

Midi files may or may not have lyrics embedded. They may be embedded
as "lyric events," in which case the file would still probably have a
..mid extension. Or, they could be embedded as "text events," in which
case the file would have a .kar extension.

If a file shows up in van Basco's player without the lyrics, then the
file doesn't contain lyrics. The van Basco player gives no indication
of whether the file has lyrics or not, and if it does find lyrics,
they are displayed the same whether they are text events or lyric
events. However, the occasional file might have lyrics entered as a
comment, and these will not display properly.

There are other players besides van Basco's, and most of them are
either freeware or shareware. There are also several programs that
can be used to add lyrics to a midi file. The FAQ for
alt.binaries.karaoke will give you all the information you need.

Hello Alfiosca,

I have the text of the FAQ, and I'm sending it to you. Just change
the date (the FAQ hasn't changed since March.) But, as the tag-line
below states, it's also available on the Web in HTML form.
