I'm just beginning to get started with Karaoke. I want to set up a
system in my home to break out at parties.

I want to start with the hardware end of it. What is my best bet for
quality that is affordable? I was at a party once and they had a
Karaoke system that worked through a unit that was hooked up to their
stereo system and the lyrics showed on their TV. I asked a few
questions but unfortunately didn't write it down. They said the unit
was affordable and you could download Karaoke songs from the internet
for free. I appreciate any help you can give me. I'm not looking for
anything that is going to be cheesy sounding. I'd like something that
sounds good but is somewhat affordable. Thanks for your help!

Once you get the laptop and karaoke files worked out, take a look
at Debs Pro Karaoke Player.

http://home.comcast.net/~debs_software/

Debs Pro Karaoke Player uses Winamp and a cd+g plugin to play
your Karaoke Files.

You can build a Database List as a library allowing you to search
the files on your computer for songs to play.
